Apple iPhone 4S hits the gray market for Php 48,500

There’s no news yet on when Globe will be bringing out Apple’s iPhone 4S but if you can’t wait for it, Widget City is already selling the 16GB version for Php48,500. It’s quite a markup but what do you expect? It’s a hot commodity and it’s unlocked!

What we don’t know is if they already have it on hand or if they’re getting their stocks from Apple Singapore who’s already accepting pre-orders by the way. If it’s from Singapore then there’s a 1-2 weeks lead time so expect their units to be available in November. They are selling the iPhone 4S starting at SGD948 so that’s about Php33k.

If you really want the phone, call Widget City (09175423438) and see if the units are already available. Who knows? They might have a contact in Hong Kong where we first saw the unlocked grey units of the iPhone 4S. But if you can wait, pre-order in Singapore and have it shipped to a friend over there. Or see if you can enter your local shipping address.

UPDATE: We just confirmed that the units are already on stock (black/white) and they came from HK and unlocked.

How to: Enable Facebook Timeline Right Now

Last September 22, 2011 Facebook announced Timeline, a crazy (and kind of creepy) omnibus look at everything that has ever happened in your Facebook lifespan. It’s like a story book of your life — or at least the online, documented parts.

Facebook said that Timeline would be on the way for everyone sometime in the coming weeks… which is great and all, for everyone else. You’re the type of person who reads TechCrunch, and are thus likely the type of person who likes their new and shiny things right now.

That’s okay. We can make it happen.

Fortunately, enabling Timeline a bit early isn’t too difficult — but it’s not at all straight forward, either.

You see, Facebook is enabling Timeline early for open graph developers. You, too, can be an open graph developer — even if you’re just looking to dabble.

A few things to note:
  • You probably don’t want to do this unless you’re actually a developer. Expect bugs.
  • Only you will see your timeline at first (unless you decide otherwise), but it will automatically go public after a few days. My timeline was automatically hard-set to go public on September 29th.
  • It seems that if you login into Facebook on another machine, Timeline gets disabled automatically on all of your machines. With that said, it seems you can get back to your timeline (but ONLY after following the steps below) by navigating to http://www.facebook.com/YOURUSERNAMEHERE?sk=timeline
  • You’ll need to have a “verified” account for one of the steps, which means you need a credit card or phone number attached to the account.

Here’s how to do it:

1. Log into Facebook

2. Enable developer mode, if you haven’t already. To do this, type “developer” into the Facebook search box, click the first result (it should be an app made by Facebook with a few hundred thousand users), and add the app.

3. Jump into the developer app (if Facebook doesn’t put you there automatically, it should be in your left-hand tool bar)

4. Create a new app (don’t worry — you wont actually be submitting this for anyone else to see/use). Give your shiny new app any display name and namespace you see fit. Read through and agree to the Platform Privacy agreement. This is the step you need to be verified for.

5. Ensure you’re in your new app’s main settings screen. You should see your app’s name near the top of the page

6. Look for the “Open Graph” header, and click the “Get Started using open graph” link.
Create a test action for your app, like “read” a “book”, or “eat” a “sandwich”

7. This should drop you into an action type configuration page. Change a few of the default settings (I changed the past tense of “read” to “redd” — again, only you can see this unless you try and submit your application to the public directory), and click through all three pages of settings

8. Wait 2-3 minutes

9. Go back to your Facebook homescreen. An invite to try Timeline should be waiting at the top of the page
And you’re done! We’ve seen this work quite a few times now, so it should work without a hitch for just about anyone.

Advantages of Jailbreaking an iPhone

Jailbreaking of iPhone is very popular since Apple has launched iPhone devices, a mass community of iPhone Dev Team is putting their effort in Jailbreaking of iPhone with every new iOS releases by apple. Do you know the advantages of Jailbreaking an iPhone? if not then you must have to read this post and know the advantage of jailbreaking iPhone.

iOS jailbreaking, or simply jailbreaking, is the process of removing the limitations imposed by Apple on devices running on the iOS operating system through use of custom kernels. Such devices include the iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, and Apple TV 2G. Jailbreaking allows users to gain full access (or root access) to the operating system, allowing iOS users to download additional applications, extensions, and themes that are unavailable through the official Apple App Store, via installers such as Cydia. You can refer my post about Jailbreak iPhone 4 on iOS 4.3.3(8J2) using redsn0w_win_0.9.6rc17.

A jailbroken iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad running iOS can still use the App Store, iTunes, and other normal functions, such as making telephone calls. Unlike rooting an Android device, jailbreaking is necessary if the user intends to run software not authorized by Apple.

At its core, jailbreaking an Apple iOS device gives access to its root filesystem, allowing modification and installing third-party software components. This gives the user more control over the device and may enable features that were previously unavailable. In many cases, jailbreaking also voids the device’s warranty.

Advantages Of Jailbreaking an iPhone:
  • Under the DMCA of 2010, jailbreaking Apple iDevices is legal in the United States, although Apple has announced that the practice “can void the warranty.
  • Cracked iPhone Games and Apps Installation – Jailbreaking is necessary if the user intends to run software not authorized by Apple.
  • Gain deeper customization of device (e.g. theming, redesigned user interfaces and customize lock screens.)
  • Jailbreaking also allows users to use paid apps from the App Store for free.
  • It’s Fast and Easy – One of the best thing about jailbreaking an iPhone is you can easily jailbreak it within few minutes.
  • Video chat over 3G Network – FaceTime video chat is a new feature of the iPhone 4, but it only works over a Wi-Fi network, which may be difficult to find in many situations. Jailbreaking the iPhone 4 allows for FaceTime video chat over a 3G connection.

So these are the advantages of Jailbreaking iPhone you should be aware of.

Steve Jobs Dead at 56, Legacy Lives On

Steve Jobs died on Wednesday, he was 56 years old.He is survived by his wife and four children.

Jobs stepped down on Aug. 24 as CEO of Apple, the company he co-founded and made into a world leader because the end of his life was near. His body was breaking down down. The world knew he had a rare form of pancreatic cancer.

Clearly that is one reason why he didn't appear at Tuesday's introduction of the iPhone 4S, even remotely.

Just because he's gone doesn't mean he's leaving the company bereft. Apple's headquarters is on Infinite Loop in Cupertino, Calif. Its ad campaigns for products featured people like the Dalai Lama and Nelson Mandela, who encouraged consumer to "Think Different." He encouraged subordinates to be "insanely great."

Jobs iwas probably "insanely great" himself. He hasd no formal higher education, yet will go down in history (with Steve Wozniak, his teenage buddy and co-founder) as the man who made computing personal. This is probably his greatest insight: popularizing technology that had been reserved for elites and making it available for everyone. He will likely be ranked as an industrial genius with people like Thomas Edison, Henry Ford and closer to home, William Hewlett and David Packard.

Steve Jobs, while a creative genius, was also lucky. His adoptive parents reared him in the San Francisco Bay area in the 1950s and 1960s, a time when theHewletts and Packards and the Varian brothers and other people who created Silicon Valley were running their first-generation companies.

He was lucky to be born only a few years after the transistor had been invented and patented at AT&T's Bell Labs and electrical engineers like Jack Kilby and Robert Noyce invented the integrated circuit. In 1961, President John F. Kennedy set as a national goal sending a man to the moon by 1971, sending the technology sector into a frenzy of computation, miniaturization and communications that today is largely taken for granted.

By the time Jobs and Wozniak were teenagers, they were forerunners of today's computer hackers. They tinkered with electronic instruments and became so-called "phone phreaks." They saw the first large-scale computers brought about by manufacturers like IBM, NCR and Burroughs and thought that with enough off-the-shelf components, they could make computing democratic and personal.

They worked at it, too, visiting companies like Hewlett-Packard and Xerox, especially Xerox's Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) where Xerox engineers had developed things like the mouse, the icon and preliminary versions of small-screen computers. Xerox didn't have a clue how to deal with these innovations. Jobs and Wozniak did, starting first in garages cobbling the first Apple computers, designed with its own operating system, before Bill Gates had dropped out of Harvard.

They found that if they could assemble these first Apple machines, which were expensive but not out of the question for consumers, people would buy them for the home. Later, they hit up investors like electronics tycoon Max Palevsky and the Rockefeller family's Venrock Associates for money to start their own company.

They deliberately chose the name Apple because it was easy, instantly recognizable and an everyday item in every household -- much like the Apple computer would become, then the MacIntosh computer, followed much later by appliances like the iPod, iPhone and iPad.

Jobs always exercised an authoritarian grip on products, software and design -- always hating leaks, strictly controlling everything. He pitched Apple to the educational and creative markets, a niche it has always kept. It was not so successful in the office and enterprise market.

Jobs stayed as CEO until after Apple went public, then participated in the search for a professional manager and marketer who could lead the company to greater stature and have the formal Wall Street cred he lacked. That led to the hiring of John Sculley from PepsiCo., who ultimately fired Jobs and then was fired himself by the board.

In the wilderness, Jobs recouped, raising more money for a new company, NeXT Computer from billionaire Ross Perot, the founder of Electronic Data Systems in Dallas. In the 1990s, NeXT designed innovative workstations to compete against high-end products from IBM, Sun Microsystems and Apollo Computer as well as a new version of the Unix software that ran them. NeXT didn't go far but ultimately was wrapped into Apple when Jobs came back and the NeXT OS became the template for the OS now running all of Apple's prodcuts due to its multifunctionality strengths.

Jobs also got involved with computer animation and helped found Pixar, which had some huge successes before being acquired by Walt Disney Co., which put Jobs onto the board of directors.

Back at Apple, Jobs continued to make Apple products stand out: rather than use industry standard chips from Intel, they used PowerPC chips co-designed with IBM and Motorola precisely because they were Unix-like. That's why Apple computers cost more than IBM, HP and Compaq products but they were easier to use, were better at handling creative functions and processed video and sounds more easily.

As well, Apple could charge more. Users paid a premium for the products and as Apple's recovery began, the company became a moneymaker, albeit with never a share higher than 20 percent in the PC era. Its strengths remained in schools, colleges, advertising and creative arts, where they remain strong today.

Jobs also had his share of flops. After the success of the Apple II and the first Macintoshes in the mid-1980s, there was the Lisa, named for his daughter. It was a disaster.

Then there was "Apple in the office," another disaster. Apple printers, which didn't do well against HP models. In the early 1990s, there was the Newton, a kind of early iPad that came with a stylus that was supposed to interpret handwriting. It was so bad that Garry Trudeau satirized it in "Doonesbury."

There were also assorted product glitches, manufacturing errors and challenges to other companies that failed. But Apple was able to prevail in the early 1990s when IBM nearly collapsed and by the time Jobs returned as CEO in 1997, it never looked back.

Apple wasn't the first with an MP3 player, nor the first to offer web-based music downloads, nor a mobile phone, nor an easy-to-use handheld device. But Jobs studied what was in the market, used the feel and others in the company had for what makes electronics personal and came up with devices like iPod, iPhone and iPad, among others, which have humbled the music industry, the telecommunications makers and the global electronics makers.

That's because of Jobs' innate belief that the only purpose of computing technology and its benefits to make things personal.

The test of successor CEO Tim Cook will be to see if he can maintain Jobs' touch without his being around to personally guide the company. And after the inevitable, what happens to Apple in five, 10 and 20 years.

Timing, brains, guts, arrogance, focus on design and a deft touch: these are the legacies Jobs leaves Apple, the company. Jobs the innovator has already touched the entire planet.

Facebook Warns Users of Clicking Dangerous Links

Facebook has added a security feature that will protect users against malware and phishing by warning them not to click potentially dangerous sites.

The security feature was put in place with the help of security firm WebSense, which will identify dangerous links.

With the security feature, Facebook users will see a pop-up message appear whenever they try to visit another site or attempt to click a link listed in WebSense's database as containing malware. If a link is suspected to be dangerous, the same message will encourage the user to return to the Facebook page or proceed to other webpages at their own risk.

In a blog post, WebsSense said Facebook is a target of scammers because of the social networking site's 800 million users or potential victims. Links are booby-trapped with malware and those who click it will be infected. More users are attacked when the link is shared to other Facebook users.

The infection happens as links disguised as video or other posts usually ask Facebook users to enter their log-in information to be directed to the site.

WebSense has been working with Facebook's security team to keep users safe the past few years. It has integrated its security technology into the Facebook platform to enhance the security setting of the most popular social networking site.

"By providing real-time protection from malware, spyware, inappropriate content, data leaks, and spam, we make it safe for people and businesses to use the web," said WebSense chief technology officer Dan Hubbard, according to CNN.

Apple's huge challenge with new iPhone

Can the iPhone bring sexy back?

With more than 128 million iPhones sold since 2007, the device's ubiquity has created a marketing and design challenge for Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL - News): how to wow consumers in a maturing smartphone market where many alternatives now look and feel like Apple's gadget.

That's a challenge Apple will have to address Tuesday, when the company is widely expected to unveil a fifth-generation iPhone.

Apple has been working on an iPhone that is thinner and lighter with an improved eight-megapixel camera but details otherwise are unclear.

Now the question is, what features will be sufficient to dazzle consumers. For years, Apple has won converts in part because of the freshness of the iPhone's design and software capabilities that didn't exist elsewhere.

[More from WSJ.com: Apple: Where Is the Pre-iPhone 5 Love?]

The company now faces tougher competition from smartphones using Google Inc.'s Android software, which also feature full-screen touch displays and access to thousands of apps. Some phones even out-flank the current iPhone: Motorola Mobility Holdings Inc.'s Droid Bionic has an eight-megapixel camera and access to high-speed, fourth-generation wireless networks. Android accounts for 43% of the U.S. market for smartphone operating systems, while Apple has 28%, according to Nielsen Co.

Apple still is the biggest producer of smartphone handsets.

Some surveys have suggested that consumer demand remains strong for the iPhone, which was last refreshed in June 2010. A survey by ChangeWave Research in July found that 46% of consumers planning to buy smartphones in the next 90 days would choose an iPhone. Demand could be bolstered in the U.S. by the expected agreement by Sprint Nextel Corp., the country's third-largest mobile carrier by subscribers, to sell the handset.

Even though many consumers expect Apple to keep coming up with new designs, "there has to be a point where the expectations outrun the abilities," said analyst Roger Kay of Endpoint Technologies Associates.

Unlike in previous years when Chief Executive Steve Jobs unveiled a new iPhone model to a big audience in downtown San Francisco, Apple this time is holding a smaller gathering at its Cupertino, Calif., headquarters. Mr. Jobs resigned as CEO in August, succeeded by Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook.

[More from WSJ.com: Investors Sing a New Tune — 'Won't Get Fooled Again']

Surprising people with design could be particularly tough for the iPhone 5.

"Industrial design is important, but in these small packages we are starting to bump into the laws of physics," said Tim Bajarin, a consultant with Creative Strategies Inc. "You aren't going to do anything that I would consider radical in design and still get this feature set and function."

Software is even more important now to differentiate the iPhone, Mr. Bajarin said.

Apple in 2009 upgraded its 3G model iPhone with a 3G S model by tweaking internal components and emphasizing software enhancements. The company wanted to signal to consumers that software is an important part of the phone's evolution, according to a person familiar with Apple's thinking.

But Apple also faces competition in smartphone software. Apple in June previewed the capabilities of its next-generation mobile operating system, including a messaging service called iMessage and wireless storage and music syncing through the iCloud service. Similar features already are offered elsewhere, including through Research In Motion Ltd.'s Blackberry and Amazon.com Inc.'s digital music store.

One potential trick up Apple's sleeve: software developed at Siri Inc., a start-up Apple bought last year that makes a voice-activated personal assistant, analysts said. Apple has kept mum about its plans for Siri.

Apple has conquered product fatigue before. The company's iPods in 2001 revolutionized the way people listened to music. By 2004, when the iPod was in its third generation, Apple introduced a smaller version, the iPod Mini. In 2005 Apple reinvented the iPod again, introducing the even smaller Shuffle, with flash memory and no screen.

Apple's internal processes are set up to avoid incrementalism in its products, the person familiar with Apple's thinking said. The company doesn't interview consumers about what they want in the next generation of products; instead, Apple challenges its designers to come up with dramatic visions for what products can do.

Some designs have missed the mark. The Power Mac G4 Cube personal computer that Apple unveiled in 2001 featured an unusual square design. But many models developed cracks in their cases. Later that year, Apple said the product would be put "on ice."

Jeremiah Warren, a 19-year-old filmmaking student in Dallas, said he plans to upgrade his iPhone as soon as the new one becomes available.

"Apple has caught me with the 'magic' of the phone, not the technical specs," he said.

But some other gadget lovers will wait and see. "Most of my friends roll their eyes about the constant upgrades they feel pressured to spend money on," said Guy Burns, a 41-year-old designer in San Francisco, who has no immediate plans to upgrade.

How To: Remove/Disable WAT Update on Windows 7

If you don’t activate Windows 7 within 30 days after installation, you will not be able to use every feature of Windows. You can regain full use of your computer by activating Windows.

To activate Windows 7 LEGALLY on your computer, do the following:

Open Windows Activation by clicking the Start button, right-clicking Computer, clicking Properties, and then clicking Activate Windows now.‌ If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. If you want to activate it legally, just buy a original copy of Windows 7 to save your problem

BUT

If you want it to do the other way around so it won't cause you a lot of dollars, here is what you need to do! :)

This is the easiest solution for your problem of removing the WAT update in Windows 7. Just follow the instructions below.

INSTALLATION INSTRCUTIONS:

1. Download the WAT Remover here.

2. Run the crack as administrator. (In my case, it is already removed. I just show you how it looked like)
 3. Click on remove WAT.

4. After that a message will prompt that the system will be rebooting

5. Right Click the MyComputer icon on your computer and the WAT is now removed. See it for yourself!

How To: Hack Windows and Mac User Account Passwords

Password cracking seems like a difficult task but these techniques make it as simple. We’ll show you some software which cracks windows, mac, and linux user account passwords in a just a few minutes. The programs basically do all the hard work for you as noted in this tutorial.

Breaking into a computer is an illegal activity but it does help to know how to re-access your own equipment.  So, this post is for informational and ethical purposes only! This how-to covers three OS we use and the methods to crack the log-in passwords.

Windows

For Windows OS, Ophcrack is the tool of choice. It is a free Windows Password cracker based on Rainbow Tables. It has a GUI which makes it easier to run. The software can decipher passwords up to 14 characters in length in a quick 10 seconds.

To use Ophcrack one needs to download the Ophcrack ISO and burn it to a CD (or load it via a USB drive). Run the CD by loading it in the tray and restarting the computer with the power switch. Switch to the BIOS options and set the computer to boot from the CD Drive. The computer boots up and reads the Ophcrack CD which then proceeds to break the password. Use this password to log into the machine.

Ophcrack is a multi-platform software and so can be used for Mac and Linux too.

Mac OS X

Apart from Ophcrack, another simple method involves using the Mac OS X installation CD (for v10.4). Insert and reboot to display UTILITIES. Choose RESET PASSWORD to get a new one. Login using this password. To reset the password in Mac OS X 10.5, reboot the computer and press COMMAND + S.

At the prompt type in:

sck -fy
mount -uw /
launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.DirectoryServices.plist
dscl . -passwd /Users/UserName newpassword

Login with the new reset password.
