Advantages of Jailbreaking an iPhone

Jailbreaking of iPhone is very popular since Apple has launched iPhone devices, a mass community of iPhone Dev Team is putting their effort in Jailbreaking of iPhone with every new iOS releases by apple. Do you know the advantages of Jailbreaking an iPhone? if not then you must have to read this post and know the advantage of jailbreaking iPhone.

iOS jailbreaking, or simply jailbreaking, is the process of removing the limitations imposed by Apple on devices running on the iOS operating system through use of custom kernels. Such devices include the iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, and Apple TV 2G. Jailbreaking allows users to gain full access (or root access) to the operating system, allowing iOS users to download additional applications, extensions, and themes that are unavailable through the official Apple App Store, via installers such as Cydia. You can refer my post about Jailbreak iPhone 4 on iOS 4.3.3(8J2) using redsn0w_win_0.9.6rc17.

A jailbroken iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad running iOS can still use the App Store, iTunes, and other normal functions, such as making telephone calls. Unlike rooting an Android device, jailbreaking is necessary if the user intends to run software not authorized by Apple.

At its core, jailbreaking an Apple iOS device gives access to its root filesystem, allowing modification and installing third-party software components. This gives the user more control over the device and may enable features that were previously unavailable. In many cases, jailbreaking also voids the device’s warranty.

Advantages Of Jailbreaking an iPhone:
  • Under the DMCA of 2010, jailbreaking Apple iDevices is legal in the United States, although Apple has announced that the practice “can void the warranty.
  • Cracked iPhone Games and Apps Installation – Jailbreaking is necessary if the user intends to run software not authorized by Apple.
  • Gain deeper customization of device (e.g. theming, redesigned user interfaces and customize lock screens.)
  • Jailbreaking also allows users to use paid apps from the App Store for free.
  • It’s Fast and Easy – One of the best thing about jailbreaking an iPhone is you can easily jailbreak it within few minutes.
  • Video chat over 3G Network – FaceTime video chat is a new feature of the iPhone 4, but it only works over a Wi-Fi network, which may be difficult to find in many situations. Jailbreaking the iPhone 4 allows for FaceTime video chat over a 3G connection.

So these are the advantages of Jailbreaking iPhone you should be aware of.

5 Basic Steps on Troubleshooting your Computer

Need a help on troubleshooting a computer? before calling a technical help and paying for the service fee, you may want to check out your computer by yourself. A little common sense may help you out solve simple computer problems, both hardware and software.

Follow these basic steps:
  • If your computer freezes or stops responding, hit the numlock button, its a good indicator when your computer hangs, if the led light does not blink, then it stops responding therefore you need to restart it. Your system will correct themselves when you do.
  • Check your cables. Check the electric power. Plug some other devices like lamps or fans into the same power outlet that's connected to your PC to make sure the outlet is working. Mouse, Keyboard and other hardwares not responding? Make sure its plugged in.
  • Listen for uncommon sounds. Is the cooling fan on the processor running? Is the hard drive making unusual noises? try rebooting your computer, it is also helpful sometimes that you replug the wires connected to your hard drive and if that does not work then you may consider replacing it, but you should consult your technician first.
  • Are you hearing a beep sound when you boot your computer and black display on your monitor? it is probably your RAM (Random Access Memory). Try unplugging your RAM then get an eraser, rub the eraser into the teeth of the RAM (the one with the little golden stripes on the tip of it) and re-plug it. This solution works most of the times.
  • Look inside the computer for wires that aren't plugged in all the hardwares which makes faulty connections.

Additional Tips and Warnings:
  • When you decided to call for a technical help. Make sure you tell all the details, tell exactly what is the problem and what were you exactly doing when it occurred. Also write down any error messages. This  may help the technical support agent to easily comprehend your troubleshoot problems.
  • Be specific as possible when your talking to a technical support agent. Example: "I see a little red icon on the bottom right of my screen with an "x" on it."
  • Computers sometimes tend to crash or freezes when their hard disks become too full. Free up space by deleting unnecessary files. Make sure to empty your recycle bin because it some memory still stays in your hard disk when it is still in the recycle bin.
  • When working inside the computer especially with the wires and in the circuits. MAKE SURE TO TURN OFF YOUR COMPUTER AND MAKE SURE THE COMPUTER IS UNPLUGGED or else you might be grounded or electrocuted.

What you need to know before getting a 3TB hard disk

So you decided to spend some of your hard-earned cash to purchase another hard disk. One that can support your growing collection of movies and photos for eons to come. And what’s the largest capacity available to consumers right now? 3 terabytes! That can hold around 4500 movies (assuming a movie is 700MB in size).

But wait! Before you get excited, here are some things you need to know before getting that 3TB drive. It’s not as simple as slapping it inside your machine and connecting the necessary cables. There are some restrictions and additional stuff to be done before you can freely use a hard drive that is larger than 2.2TB.
Here are the restrictions you need to know when using drives that are larger than 2.2TB:
  • Windows XP (both 32-bit and 64-bit) doesn’t like to play with >2.2TB storage
  • 32-bit Windows Vista and Windows 7 can only support >2.2TB as secondary drives, no problem with 64-bit
  • Linux OS have no problems at all
  • Mac OS 10.5 and 10.6 won’t have any problem although it won’t work with Apple Bootcamp
  • If you wish to boot on a >2.2TB drive, you need to have a Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) firmware on your system and a 64-bit OS

Host Bus Adapter (HBA) card required

Even if you have Windows 7 and a new system, there’s still one critical component that you need and that’s a Host Bus Adapter card. HBA cards are bundled with 2.5TB or 3TB hard drive purchases. If you’re buying a second hand drive, make sure you ask for the HBA card as well.
Host Bus Adapter
The HBA card has the following roles:
  • Avoids incompatibilities with system BIOS and 3rd party storage drivers (Intel and NVidia not capable today)
  • Ensures protection to the users existing Primary drive by not disturbing its configuration during installation
  • HBA provides UEFI support for enabling boot support for 64 bit OS when Motherboard also supports UEFI

2.2TB Compatibility Chart

Sounds complicated? Here’s a chart I got from Western Digital (click to enlarge) to help you understand much better:
compatibilitychart
*1 Presently WD does not directly provide support for these applications. We have worked extensively with our partners and solutions may be available. HBA and RAID Controller vendors may have developed solutions for these applications.
*2 Linux solutions are available. Please consult your Operating System provider for use with Large Capacity drives.
*3 An available PCI-E slot for the HBA is required. Supported by using the native Windows Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI) drivers only.
*4 Apple Bootcamp is presently not supported. Support is limited to the operating system only.
*5 Boot support requires a system with UEFI Support and a 64 bit version of the OS.
*6 Check with USB Bridge provider to verify if and how Large Drives are supported.
